Pemex will use GE’s TM2500 technology with APR Energy to restore power in Salina Cruz, Mexico

• Fast power to be provided in the wake of Mexico’s recent earthquake
• Pemex will use two of GE’s TM2500 mobile power plants through GE’s fast power alliance partner APR Energy
• The TM2500 units will provide power and help to reestablish the operations at the Ingeniero Antonio Dovalí Jaime refinery in the State of Oaxaca

MEXICO CITY–While recovery efforts for the thousands affected by the earthquake continue in Mexico, GE Power (NYSE: GE) is collaborating with fast power alliance partner APR Energy to supply Pemex with GE’s TM2500 mobile power plant solutions for the Ing. Antonio Dovalí Jaime Refinery. The Refinery is located five kilometers northeast of the city of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca and will benefit from nearly 70 megawatts (MW) of urgent power generation expected to be provided by the two TM2500 units as the remaining permanent power grid is restored in the coming months.

Pemex is the largest company in Mexico and operates through the entire value chain of the petrochemical industry. The company operates eight petrochemical complexes, nine gas processing complexes, and six refineries including Ing. Antonio Dovali Jaime Refinery, producing multiple refined products for the domestic and international markets.

“For Pemex, it is very important we have a turnkey solution that will help us reactivate our facilities after an incident as serious as the one experienced in Mexico,” said Carlos Murrieta, director of Pemex Transformación Industrial.

GE’s TM2500 mobile power plants can each provide up to 35 MW of power generation to quickly deliver the power to the Salina Cruz area. Once the units enter commercial operation, they can reach full power in less than 10 minutes and operate on a variety of gas or liquid fuels for greater flexibility. APR Energy, which purchased the units from GE Power in 2016, will be responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the project. The units arrived via air in Mexico this week, signifying another example of GE and APR Energy working closely together on fast power projects by combining GE’s latest technology with APR Energy’s proven installation and operational experience.

“When dealing with an urgent power need, we know quick response, fast execution, as well as know-how and local experience are mandatory to deliver for our customers,” said Marco Vera, Managing Director for GE Power’s Gas Power Systems & Power Services in Mexico. “We are proud to support Mexico again with GE´s TM2500 technology; this time we will support PEMEX during this urgent situation at the largest refinery in our country, located in the State of Oaxaca, closely collaborating with our global partner APR Energy and using our latest TM2500 technology.”

“Rapid delivery and installation of this power plant will enable Pemex to resume operation of Mexico’s largest refinery, a critical component of the country’s infrastructure,” said John Campion, chairman of APR Energy. “This project is another example of the APR Energy-GE partnership providing urgently needed power to customers around the world in weeks rather than years.”

Today, more than 200 mobile and trailer-mounted TM2500 power plants have been deployed globally and in some of the most extreme conditions on Earth, including the deserts of Africa and remote communities in Asia. Based on GE’s proven LM2500 product family with over 90 million operational hours of experience, the TM2500 can be transported via land, sea or air and can be commissioned in days. It can ramp up to full power within minutes to support grid security during periods of high demand, and the latest TM2500 unit can generate more than 35 megawatt (MW) of power using gas and/or distillate liquid fuels for greater flexibility.
