APR Energy and the John and Suzanne Campion Family Foundation
Donate $30,000 to the UNF Osprey Racing Team
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – APR Energy and the John and Suzanne Campion Family Foundation announced today the donation of $30,000 to the UNF Osprey Racing Team, a collaboration among engineering and business students who annually design and build a race car to compete against other colleges in the national Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) championship.
APR Energy Chairman John Campion, on behalf of his wife, Suzanne, and APR Energy presented the donation to Dr. Mark Tumeo, Dean of the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction (CCEC), during a Sept. 4 ceremony at APR Energy headquarters in Jacksonville.
“Young people are our future and therefore it is imperative for us to help inspire, mentor and guide them to make a difference in the world,” said Campion. “The APR Energy family has supported the UNF Osprey Racing Team for several years. UNF does an outstanding job working with and recruiting an exceptional group of students that dedicate so much time, passion and hard work to the program. I consider it an honor to be able to play a role in their growth and success.”
This donation represents the fourth consecutive annual contribution UNF Osprey Racing has received from APR Energy, who routinely serves as a title sponsor for the collegiate team. The John and Suzanne Campion Family Foundation has also regularly supported the team over the years. Through their foundation, the Campions have a long history of empowering students around the world through mentorship and support.
“For John and I, it has always been our passion and duty to equip our youth with the resources they need to succeed,” said Suzanne Campion. “We look forward to supporting and collaborating with the UNF Osprey Racing Team again this year as we watch them grow and pursue excellence. Their energy and creativity inspires me.”
The UNF Osprey Racing Team provides students with an opportunity to gain real-world experience in automotive design and construction that is not available in a traditional classroom environment. The program enables them to develop practical skills such as leadership, project management and teamwork as well as receive hands-on experience with manufacturing, welding and machining. Osprey Racing, now recognized by UNF as an integral part of the engineering program, relies upon the generous support of sponsors to fully fund its initiatives and continue its long run of accomplishments.
“John’s continuing generosity and support of Osprey Racing is what makes our continued involvement in this area of engineering possible. He’s impacting students for generations to come,” said Dr. Mark Tumeo.
APR Energy and the Campions’ support of the Osprey Racing Team is only one component of their strong relationship and involvement with UNF. Just last year, APR Energy and the Campions supported the design phase of the CCEC’s new 3-D printing lab.
