APR Energy Extends Back-Up Energy Contract in California to 2025
APR Energy Limited (“APR”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Corp. (NYSE: ATCO), has extended a contract to provide approximately 75 MW of back-up energy for California’s Imperial Irrigation District (“IID”) through 2025. This is the second extension for APR’s contract with IID.
APR’s fast-track power solutions assist IID in maintaining frequency and providing backup capacity within its 6,471 square mile service territory, including Imperial County and parts of Riverside and San Diego counties.
“Since 2021, APR has helped IID ensure our customers have access to reliable energy during high demand summer months, said IID General Manager, Henry Martinez. “Our extension of APR’s contract through 2025 is a testament to their strength as a trusted energy generation partner”.
APR’s energy solutions for IID include three fully staffed GE TM2500 mobile turbine-based power plants sited within substations in El Centro and Calexico. Each power plant has an output of approximately 25 MW.
“We look forward to working with IID over the coming years as they continue to take steps to secure reliable energy generation for their service area,” said Ben Church, CEO, APR Energy. “Our long-term relationship with IID mirrors the needs of other markets as renewable integration and weather events are driving utilities to secure back-up generation capabilities over multiple years.”
