APR Energy’s First Response to the Crisis in Haiti
Following the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, 2010, APR Energy’s first response was to ensure the safety and well- being of its in- country employees and their families. APR immediately responded to the situation by opening lines of satellite communication with those in Haiti to ensure that all APR personnel were accounted for and had access to shelter. After determining the most immediate needs of our staff, APR arranged for a shipment of necessities to be sent into the country and dispersed to all 26 of the temporary power facilities that it operates. On Tuesday, January 19th it was confirmed that the shipment, including sacks of rice, canned foods, biscuits, containers of drinking water, basic medicines, flashlights and portable gas stoves had indeed reached the APR workers around the country who had been affected by the earthquake. This shipment, which was delivered through the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, was coordinated and facilitated heavily by APR Energy Contracts Manager, Tirso Selman. APR Energy is extremely grateful to Mr. Selman as well as the many individuals within the Dominican Republic and Haiti who made this delivery of essential goods a success.
Although the safety of its employees is the first priority to APR Energy, efforts are already underway to further assist the country of Haiti in this time of need. APR will soon join many other corporations in additional crisis relief programs to provide for the recovery of Haiti from this tragedy.
